Sticking In My Craw
Over the weekend there were a number of things that really stuck in my craw.
Yesterday on Meet the Press, Zel Miller (D-GA) [the D stands for Dumbass] made following statement in response to a Russert question:
This statement really gets under my skin. They (and I say they, including Miller amongst the conservatives since he's not really a liberal) act as if attacks like 9/11 were rampant before Bush took office. If they want to play this game, we can play. Let's look at the numbers shall we.
On September 11, 2001, 3,000 people died in the attacks. That's 3,000 people on Bush's watch. How many people died from terrorist attacks on American soil during Clinton's watch? On February 26, 1993, six people died in the first WTC bombing. Then on April 19, 1995, 168 people died in the Oklahoma City bombong (although this wasn't perpetrated by foriegn terrorists, we'll include it anyway). That makes a total of 174 deaths due to terrorism on American soil during Clinton's watch. So on average, Clinton lost just under two people per month to terrorism during his eight years in office; Bush has lost almost 72 people per month since he's been in office. And just so the conservatives don't call me partisan, let's look at the numbers for the last two Republican Presidents. George H. W. Bush - 0 lives lost due to terrorism on American soil. Ronald Reagan - 0 lives lost due to terrorism on American soil. Don't you feel safer?
Next on the list of things that stuck in my craw is this article from the AP concerning the economy.
Then I see the President campaigning on his "results." Great results there Mr. President
Next on the list, this article from the Casper Star Tribune:
Now I've heard of people being ejected from Bush campaign events because of anti-Bush signs and T-shirts, but this is the top. What happened to free speech and the freedom to assemble? I thought this was the United States of America.
And finally, this:
Once again, right after a major Democratic event our government issues a terror alert. Can't let the country think about the Democrats too long before they scare the hell out them again. Let's make sure they remember that only Georgie-boy can protect them.
It was a hell of a weekend.
Yesterday on Meet the Press, Zel Miller (D-GA) [the D stands for Dumbass] made following statement in response to a Russert question:
- MR. RUSSERT: Do you think the world's safer now than it was pre the invasion of Iraq?
SEN. MILLER: Oh, sure, I do, and I think that it's very obvious that it is. I mean, we have not had another attack since 9/11. And just think of the opportunities that they have--been out there. I mean, yes, it's safer than it was. This is one of those things where you've got to have continued vigilance, and we've got to do everything we can. But certainly it's safer, because the war is going on over there instead of over here right now.
This statement really gets under my skin. They (and I say they, including Miller amongst the conservatives since he's not really a liberal) act as if attacks like 9/11 were rampant before Bush took office. If they want to play this game, we can play. Let's look at the numbers shall we.

Next on the list of things that stuck in my craw is this article from the AP concerning the economy.
- The U.S. economy slowed dramatically in the spring to an annual growth rate of 3 percent, as consumers, worried about higher gasoline prices, cut back their spending to the weakest pace in three years, the Commerce Department (news - web sites) reported Friday.
The April-June advance in the gross domestic product, the country's output of goods and services, was below the 3.8 percent increase many economists had expected and was significantly down from a revised 4.5 percent growth rate in the first three months of the year.
Then I see the President campaigning on his "results." Great results there Mr. President
Next on the list, this article from the Casper Star Tribune:
- Some Democrats who signed up to hear Vice President Dick Cheney speak here Saturday were refused tickets unless they signed a pledge to endorse President Bush.
The measure was a security step designed to avoid a disruption, which Bush campaign spokesman Dan Foley alleged Democrats were planning. Democratic Party officials denied it.
Now I've heard of people being ejected from Bush campaign events because of anti-Bush signs and T-shirts, but this is the top. What happened to free speech and the freedom to assemble? I thought this was the United States of America.
And finally, this:
- Security is being stepped up in Washington, New York City and northern New Jersey after "alarming" intelligence from multiple sources indicated that al Qaeda terrorists could be targeting financial institutions with car bombs, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Sunday.
Ridge announced that the terror threat level would be raised from yellow (elevated) to orange (high) for the financial services sector in all three areas. However, the overall national threat level will remain at yellow.
The potential targets include the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington, Citigroup buildings and the New York Stock Exchange in New York and Prudential Financial facilities in northern New Jersey, he said.
Once again, right after a major Democratic event our government issues a terror alert. Can't let the country think about the Democrats too long before they scare the hell out them again. Let's make sure they remember that only Georgie-boy can protect them.
