Bush: "There was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda"

In honor of today's Senate Intelligence Report stating that there was no relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda, along with Tony Snow's pronouncement that this is "nothing new," I'd like to offer the following from the Washington Post as a reminder of what we were being told.

And from the June 18, 2004 edition of the WaPo:

"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda," Bush said after a Cabinet meeting. As evidence, he cited Iraqi intelligence officers' meeting with bin Laden in Sudan. "There's numerous contacts between the two," Bush said.

I fully expect Tony Snow to step up to the podium next week and announce that "we have always been at war with East Asia Iran."
